Art & Design

Art and Design at Ellwood
At Ellwood Community Primary School, we aim to deliver a high-quality art and design education that engages, inspires and challenges pupils and equips them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. The children study a range of different artists from around the world and, as they progress, are encouraged to think critically about the art they study and to develop a greater understanding of the historical and cultural development of art and design.
We use a variety of techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture and textiles, and experiment with different materials and media. The children enjoy the opportunities they have to get involved in projects and events in the local community.
KS1 Art Club
Art club commemorated Remembrance Day by creating some artwork inspired by 'Flanders Field'.  We used a range of materials (paint, oil pastels, pens and tissue paper) and techniques.
Using different methods and materials.
Bird Pottery
Thank you to Georgie and Katie who visited us from 'Bird Pottery' in Littledean. They very kindly came into school to help us make our Jubilee bunting. The children created fantastic detailed designs and took great care when painting. We can't wait to see them finished!
We study Art & Design in our termly topics.
We study famous artists as inspiration for our work.
Willow class enjoyed creating a range of artwork during their South American topic including watercolour scenes on a colourwash background using weaving to add extra detail and fabulous cushion covers and wall hangings using fabric they had dyed.
The children were inspired to create some wonderful pieces of artwork as part of their topic homework.
Sycamore class have been busy designing and sewing cushion covers.
We love combining our DT and art skills. Sycamore have produced some super lino prints.
We are a Writing School and enjoy using art as inspiration for our writing.
Willow class had a go at creating clay pots in the style of those found in Ancient Greece.
The children had great fun designing their own 'pop art' canvases, some were selected for display at a competition at Taurus Crafts in the summer.
We recently entered the Coleford Rotary Hands on Art competition with the subject ‘Workings of the Forest’. It was a tough decision, the children’s art work was superb. Congratulations to our entrants and good luck!
Beautiful planters at the Taurus Crafts summer competition.
