Beech Class

Class Teachers: Miss F Chisman and Mrs N Rice
Teaching Assistants: Mrs L Olley and Mrs N Davies
Welcome back to the summer term in Beech class. This term's topic is 'Underground, Overground'. The children will be learning all about plants and animals. We will be exploring our school garden and looking at different habitats and food chains. Our class book for this term is 'James and the Giant Peach' by Roald Dahl and the children are really enjoying it.
We are delighted to have Mrs Rice join us in Beech class, who teaches on Monday and Tuesday, with Miss Chisman teaching Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
PE is on a Tuesday afternoon as well as the class completing the daily mile challenge.
As the weather is finally brightening up, can children please bring hats, sun cream and a reusable bottle for water.
James and the Giant Peach
Beech class have really been enjoying our class book, so much so that we decided to write our own! The pupils have planned, drafted, edited and ‘published’ their own book, complete with illustrations. During our Royal Wedding tea party we shared our books with Chestnut. They were very impressed, as were we of their ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ stories.
Royal Wedding
To celebrate the Royal Wedding we looked at the Roayl family tree. The children ordered some of the family members from the Queen to Prince Louis. Then they made flags with the Union Jack on one side and a message to Harry and Meghan on the other. We practiced waving our flags outside for a tea party with Chestnut!
Year 2 Science
To start our science topic of plants, each year 2 pupil has planted their own bean plant and we are going to record the growth and development of the seeds each week. While planting the seeds we explored the school garden, using magnifying glasses to make close observations.
After the upsetting news that Mrs Milford thought erupting our volcanoes would be too dangerous, luckily we managed to write incredible persuasive letters that changed her mind!
Finally we were able to have a fantastic morning combining science, history, geography and DT to erupt our volcanoes and destroy Pompeii. Each group organised themselves, gathered their equipment and carried out their experiments. What a superb morning!
Beech class have had a brilliant time designing, constructing and decorating their models of Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. They have all displayed amazing teamwork skills and we can’t wait for the eruptions!
We had a fantastic afternoon making pizzas! The children loved mixing, kneading and shaping their own bases and then chose from a delicious selection of toppings. Big thank you to Macey’s mum, Isabelle’s dad and Ryan’s dad who were all brilliant helpers.
