Chestnut Class 2019/20
Welcome to Chestnut!
Miss Hek - teaching year 1 in the morning and years 1 and 2 in the afternoon.
Miss Abbott - teaching year 2 in the morning and will be teaching year 1 and 2 Art on Monday afternoons.

Maths- We have been busy counting to twenty and counting backwards from twenty, we have also represented numbers in different ways for example, using Numicon, bead-strings and counters!
English - We have been practising retelling Rapunzel using actions and sequencing the story! The children enjoyed Roald Dahl day on Friday 13th where we discovered footprints lefts by the Enormous Crocodile!
Science - We have been learning about everyday materials, we enjoyed our material hunt around the classroom!
Chestnut will be having PE lessons every Wednesday afternoon.
Please ensure that all uniform is labelled, so we can return mislaid items to the right child.
Please ensure your child(ren) have their link folders in school everyday as they will be checked everyday.
Children are expected to read at least 4 times every week and are entered into the reading raffle during Celebration assembly on Thursdays. Remember that your child can also read their own books at home as this will count towards the 4 reads!
Reading books will be changed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday if your child has read at least twice.
Year 1 will start to receive homework week commencing the 16th September.
The children will receive Phonics homework every Monday and will be marked every Friday.
Maths homework will be sent home every Thursday and will be marked every Wednesday.
Along with their Phonics homework children will receive a set of spellings to learn and will be checked every Friday. Words will be taken from the 'common exception' list which children in Year 1 are expected to know how to spell.
