At Ellwood School, we believe that it is important for the children to have a voice and be given the opportunity to take on responsibilities linked to school improvement.
Willow, Sycamore, Beech and Chestnut classes vote annually for two School Councillors, who represent them at our monthly School Council meetings. In Year 6, the children vote for a School Council Chair and Vice-Chair.
Class Councils, where children discuss standing items such as their happiness and safety as well as ideas and comments for school improvements and fund raising, are held in advance of School Council meetings. The School Councillors then bring their notes from Class Councils to School Council meetings, where they are discussed further. Where possible, the children are encouraged to take responsibility for organising class and school events.
'Ellwood's Got Talent'
At the end of the Autumn Term, Mollie and Emily organised an extremely successful 'Ellwood's Got Talent' show. Children were able to show off their various talents in classes, with one participant making it through to the finals in each of four categories.
An amazing total of £55 was raised to put towards the School Council's chosen charity for the year, British Heart Foundation.
It is hoped that they will organise a further event in the summer term.
