Willow Class 2018/19

Welcome to a new year with Willow class. The children have settled well and we have already enjoyed a range of different activities as the new year gets underway. We are studying the First World War in our Fire! Fire! topic; this should be particularly poignant as the country marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the war on 11th November this year.
We very much look forward to working with your children, and you, over the coming year. Please come in and see us if you have any questions or queries.
Class Teachers: Mrs N Marshall and Mrs H Woodhouse

What a fantastic trip we had to Birmingham Hippodrome to see Michael Morporgu's War Horse today. We hope that the children will remember this wonderful show for a long time to come.  They were a real credit to themselves, their parents and the school. It was a real treat to be able to see this West End production and we look forward to studying the book in class later this term.
Singing happy birthday in Portuguese to the children with September birthdays
In Science Year 6 children have been learning about light and investigating how we see objects. Today, they made ghosts appear!
At the end of their electricity topic, year 6 created quiz boards using their knowledge of circuits.
On Friday 12th October, Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to visit the Cheltenham Literature Festival. In spite of incredible wind, which made a terrific noise inside the marquee, we had a great time listening to two very different authors talking about their lives and writing. Some of the children had the chance to meet the authors and have their newly-purchased books signed by them. What a great day we had!
November and December were busy months in Willow class. We visited Skillzone to learn about keeping safe in a range of situations and attended a play at the Police HQ to find out about internet safety. We sang carols at a Christmas lunch for Coleford over 80s club and a smaller group entertained the Crossroads Care group. Fun was had in the classroom too - creating Christingles in RE, cooking healthy muffins and completing an art and DT project to build some fantastic WW1 trenches.
On Monday 11th February, Willow visited Newent School for a cookery session. We had great fun with Miss Palmer, who talked us through the steps to make Trench Cake - a favourite with the soldiers in the First World War.
