Willow Harvest Assembly
Willow held a wonderful Harvest assembly on Wednesday 20th October. They all worked incredibly hard to contribute to it.
Cheltenham Literature Festival
We had a great day out at the Cheltenham Literature Festival where the children attended a workshop hosted by Cressida Cowell, author of the 'How to train a dragon' and the Wizard of Once series. They were also entertained by Michael Rosen at the live Poetry Show, where he was named the CLiPPA winner for his book 'On the Move, poems about migration'. The CLiPPA (Centre for Literacy in Primary Poetry Award) is the only poetry award which encourages and celebrates outstanding poetry published for children.
Link with St Hilaire de Riez
We are pleased that we have been able to pick up our link with Ecole Henry Simon in the town of St Hilaire de Riez, which is twinned with Coleford. The children have started to exchange letters, examples can be seen below, and we are hoping to set up a virtual meeting once they get to know each other a little better.
World Mental Health Day
To mark World Mental Health Day, the children discussed the importance of looking after your mental health and expressed their feelings about their own mental health.
The Great War
Our topic this term is based on World War One, The Great War. Details of the children's learning linked to this in different subjects can be found on the pupil overview link below and a copy should also have been sent home. In art, the children have created some fantastic topic book covers using a colourwash background and silhouettes to create a battlefield scene. You can see some examples below.
They have been learning about the events leading up to the start of the war and what it was like living in the trenches and have started to create sketch book diaries based on their research.
