Year 2 2021 - 2022

Welcome to Year 2

Meet the team....
Miss Chisman (Teacher), Mrs Barry (Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Rees (Teaching Assistant)
Homework
Everyone is excepted to read at least 4 times a week.
Phonics and Maths homework is given out on a Friday and due back into school on the following Thursday.

Library

The children enjoy visiting the library. We have our slot on a Friday so please make sure your child brings their current library book into school each Friday if they would like to take a new book home.
Poetry

We used actions to help learn our model text 'In this ocean' and then looked at the different features which were used in the poem. We found adjectives, alliteration and repeating patterns. The children used the model text to write their own poems about the Great Fire of London, describing it through their senses.
For our planning lesson we had a little fire in the garden and shared lots of creative descriptions to describe what they could see, hear, smell and touch.

Pirate Treasure Hunt

Today we had a special delivery...a treasure map!
After carefully unwrapping the map, we decided to follow the clues. Everyone helped follow the directions and we ended up in the garden. Finally we found a hidden treasure chest but unfortunately it was empty!
Do you know what happened to our treasure?
Anti-Bullying Week 2021

We kick-started Anti-Bullying week with Odd Socks Day. We all are a little 'odd' and that is what makes us all so special. The children took part in lots of activities this week around the theme of 'One Kind Word'.
Maths - Week commencing 18.10.21

This week in maths we have been adding multiples of ten to different numbers. We then moved onto adding a one-digit number to a two-digit number, crossing ten. The children have used base-ten equipment to help practically add the amounts, exchanging ten ones for one ten when the amounts cross ten. Then the children progressed onto drawing pictorial representations of the tens and ones.
Cotsworld Wildlife Park

We had a fantastic trip to the wildlife park. The children had a brilliant time seeing all of the animals, we enjoyed a train ride, ice-creams and had a great educational talk about habitats.
Science - Materials

The children have been exploring different materials. They went on a hunt outside to identify the material that objects were made from. Then as a class we discussed why certain materials are used for used purposes, based on their properties.
In groups the children collected objects and then chose their own categories to sort them into.
