Physical Education at Ellwood Community Primary School
Our mission: As athletes we are active, healthy and display good sportsmanship
We are passionate to give as many children as possible the opportunity to complete in a variety of competitions and children having the opportunities to learn arrange of sport. It is also important that we create sport leaders that support children at lunch time to support playtime games and to promote our school values. We thrive to provide children with opportunities to develop lifelong skills and a ‘never give up attitude’ through a variety of sports such as, biking, dance, yoga and gymnastics.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We are delighted to have been recognised for our success and have received a Gold award! This is an amazing achievement to receive the Gold School Games award for our commitment to encouraging children to be active, our PE curriculum and provision, good progression and skills mapped across the school, new opportunities to try different sports, wellbeing, vast range of clubs, competitions, taster days and our provision for all children. The award also looks at the support we give children to develop their well-being and healthy lifestyles. We needed to provide a lot of evidence to be able to receive a Gold award and this demonstrates our commitment to developing the whole child and not just focusing on the academic side of education.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, staff skills, well-being, being active, planning, assessment, curriculum and clubs and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
Mrs Milford would like to thank all staff (especially Miss Hek for her hard work for submitting the application), staff and children for their hard work and efforts achieving this award, we couldn't have done it without you!!
