We have a dedicated, hardworking team of staff at Ellwood Community Primary School. Each staff member is valued and plays an important role in our school. The staff in our school are highly skilled and passionate about education. They care about each and every child's well-being and progress. They go that extra mile to ensure all our pupils are safe and happy.

Class Organisation

The school has 5 classes and therefore two year groups are split between two classes as shown below. This is determined by the age of the children.

Oak – EYFS only (Mrs King)

Chestnut – Year 1 and 2 (Mrs Morris)

Beech - Year 2 and 3 (Mrs Tyler)

Sycamore – Year 4 and 5 (Mrs Aston)

Willow – Year 5 and 6 (Mrs Weir)

At the moment, we are fortunate to be able to teach discrete year groups in the morning for English and Maths. Science is also taught in discrete year groups.

Midday Supervisors

The Important Role of Our Midday Supervisors Our midday supervisors play an essential role in ensuring the school day runs smoothly, safely, and happily beyond the classroom. Their work during lunchtime is vital in supporting pupils’ wellbeing, safety, and enjoyment, helping create a positive and caring environment for all. Supporting Pupils During Lunchtime Midday supervisors are responsible for overseeing pupils throughout the lunchtime period. This includes: Supervising children in the dining hall Supporting and encouraging good behaviour and manners Helping younger pupils with their meals where needed Ensuring all children feel included and supported Managing playground activities and promoting positive play. Their presence ensures that lunchtime is a safe, enjoyable, and well-organised part of the day for every child. Ensuring Safety and Wellbeing A key part of the role involves keeping pupils safe at all times. Midday supervisors are trained to: 

Monitor behaviour and respond calmly to incidents

Provide first aid when needed

Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing

Maintain clear routines and expectations.

Their vigilance and care help prevent issues and ensure any concerns are dealt with quickly and effectively

A Caring and Supportive Presence

Midday supervisors are often a familiar and reassuring face for pupils outside the classroom. They build positive relationships with children, helping them feel safe, valued, and listened to. Whether organising play, resolving small disagreements, or offering comfort, they are always there to support pupils during the busy lunchtime period.
