Arts Mark

What is Arts Mark ?

Artsmark empowers teachers with the skills they need to embed arts, culture and creativity across the whole curriculum.

Schools are recognised for their exceptional commitment to creativity with the Artsmark Award, accredited by the Arts Council England – the only award for arts and culture provision in England.

How did we get on ?

We are so proud to be able to announce that we have been awarded an Arts Mark Award! Not just any award - but a Silver Award! This is fantastic! This is the first time we have applied for it and we have jumped straight to a Silver award! Thank you to pupils, staff, particularly Mrs King, for gathering all the evidence, submitting the application and staff for supporting her when planning the opportunities for the children over the last 18 -24 months. The application process and the evidence needed for the submission was a mammoth task. The evidence, work and portfolio is scrutinised very closely and quality assured.  We haven’t really done anything additional or different in terms of the curriculum, as we do that so well anyway! However, it is nice to be recognised for our hard work – going above and beyond the norm.

We are so pleased that we received this award, which reflects our dedication to personal development, creativity and the arts.

At Ellwood School, we don’t just value the academic subjects, we really value the creative arts too - developing the whole child.

Please see a little bit of feedback which we received from the panel……

Congratulations! We are delighted to inform you that you have been awarded a Silver Award!

Your award is valid for two years and will expire on 17 October 2027.

Every Artsmark Award is a significant achievement. Thank you for your commitment to embedding arts culture and creativity across your whole school. We know the work and effort that this takes and would like to use this opportunity to thank you as the Artsmark lead for completing an Artsmark journey. We hope you have seen the real impact that you have had.

We’re pleased to share some of the feedback from our Assessors:

·         Ellwood Primary School has used this Artsmark journey to develop the skills and working pattern of your Art and Music leads to drive forward arts provision within your school.

·         Your children are more self-assured artists as a result of your Artsmark journey and more confident about getting involved.

·         You have monitored delivery of the arts through observations and pupil conferencing. You value arts and culture and promote them and have ensured your children can explore their creativity through your curriculum and new clubs that you now offer.

·         Through your Oracy work children confidently speak about their artwork. They have opportunities to perform and to learn musical instruments.

·         Older children had a trip to the theatre, you took part in Young Voices and also did a whole school art trip to look at wire sculpting and Batik printing. You work with artists and arts organisations.

·         Children are excited and engaged in the arts and all of them take part in the year end show either performing or helping backstage.

·         You consider the views of children when planning arts and cultural provision. You have built on your existing progressive art and music curriculums, including clubs.

 Congratulations on achieving Artsmark Silver.

King Charles III Coronation Art Exhibition - Friday 5th May 2023

We are so proud of the children for their hard work and creativity on their Coronation artwork. The art exhibition looked fantastic with all of the children's brilliant arts and crafts. Thank you all to parents and carers who came to view the children's artwork on Friday afternoon, we hope you all enjoyed the afternoon and had a great weekend celebrating.
Sculptures

Chestnut have enjoyed learning about sculptures. Year 1 worked together to create a class paper spider sculpture, and Year 2 used the 'score and slip' technique to create their own spider sculpture.
Arcimboldo Fruit Face Collages

Inspired by the artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo, Sycamore class created fruit face collages, with the idea of turning objects into something new. First the children planned their piece in their sketchbook, before making and evaluating their pieces.
Art within Computing

The children in Chestnut class have combined art with computing. They have created artwork on their laptops to replicate the style of the famous artist, Kandinsky.
Forest of Dean Dog Rescue Christmas Poster Competition 2022

All of the children at Ellwood, from Reception - Year 6 took part in the Forest of Dean Dog Rescue Competition this year. They have been really creative!

Well done children, good luck to everyone!
Maracas

The children in Sycamore designed and created their own maracas using recycled materials during their 'sculptures' unit within art. They were inspired by traditional African artwork when thinking about the shapes and colours on their maracas. They look fantastic!
Celebrating the life of Queen Elizabeth II
1926 - 2022

All of the children at Ellwood Community Primary School came together to create a memorial and celebration display for Queen Elizabeth II. Well done everyone!
We study famous artists as inspiration for our work.
Willow class enjoyed creating a range of artwork during their South American topic including watercolour scenes on a colourwash background using weaving to add extra detail and fabulous cushion covers and wall hangings using fabric they had dyed.
Maasai Necklaces

The children in Beech class have been exploring the topic of 'Africa' within their art lessons. They learnt about the skill of colour mixing, then about different patterns that the people in Africa use on their Maasai Necklaces. They used this knowledge to design and create their own Maasai Tribe necklaces. They look fantastic, well done!

Thank you to parents and carers for your continued support.

Remembrance Day 2022

The children at Ellwood Primary School have proudly created artwork whilst learning about Remembrance Day. All of the classes produced their pieces this week to remember the soldiers who fought for our Country.

Across the school, a wide range of materials and techniques were used to create the children's remembrance pieces. This included watercolour, card, tissue paper, oil pastels, crayons, colouring pencils and paint.

We will remember them.
