Mrs Charles is our Family Support worker. She is supported by Mrs Rowley. Between them, they have years of experience working within a school and supporting children with a range of needs; social, emotional and mental health. They can offer impartial support, advice and guidance to parents/carers.

At Ellwood Community Primary School, we pride ourselves in working with partnership with parents. When families and school work together in partnership, the outcomes for children improve. Our Family Support Workers can provide emotional support, guidance and encouragement to children and families.

Our Family Support Workers have an open-door. They are always available for an informal conversation or you can book a more formal meeting to discuss any worries or concerns.  They are able to signpost you to external organisations and professionals for additional support, if they are not able to offer the specialist support you may require.  All conversations are confidential (in accordance with safeguarding procedures) and sharing worries can help you deal with situations and together you may be able to come up with some solutions.

The Family Support Workers have a designated room which was partially funded through a Tesco Grant. The "ELSA" room is where children can go to talk, play games, learn ways to cope with their worries and discuss any problems they may have in a quiet, nurturing and calm environment.

In September 2023 a number of new families and children joined our school. When asked have they  settled in, one replied:

"Yes, we get lots of help, not just with work but with everything to do with how I am feeling".
